CHRISTMAS DAY brought bundles of joy for four mums this year at the Borders General Hospital.

It was a day Clair-Louise Gold won’t forget in a hurry as her first child arrived just before 3am.

The 18-year-old from Selkirk was joined by partner Colin Valentine for the early morning arrival of their daughter Demi-Louise., who weighed in at a healthy 7lb .5oz

Clair-Louise was still smiling on Boxing Day when she spoke to the Border Telegraph. She said: “I went into labour just after midnight – it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be.

“Demi-Louise has been great. I don’t think she knows how to cry.”

Just as the Christmas breakfasts were being served up – and parents across the Borders were tidying up mountains of wrapping paper, Jodielee Jeffrey arrived in the world.

Mum Terri, from Galashiels, went into labour at 6.30am, and her 7lb 7oz daughter was born almost two hours later with dad William Hope by her side.

The delighted 17-year-old said: “She is beautiful – the best Christmas present ever. She was up for most of Christmas night, but she’s been really good during Boxing Day.

“I wasn’t due until January 5, so she came as a bit of a surprise.”

Another Galashiels baby arrived a couple of hours later – and he wasn’t due for almost a month.

Janet Hay’s little boy, Christopher, decided he also wanted to see Christmas.

And he arrived at 10.42am, weighing 5lb 9.5oz.

Janet was thrilled with her first child. The 18-year-old told us: “I wasn’t due until January 17, but I went into labour on Christmas Eve.

“He is gorgeous, and has been no trouble at all.”

Christmas Day’s final arrival left it late.

Susan Armitage from Peebles was just putting her feet up after an enjoyable day with her two-year-old son, Paul, when she went into labour at 10pm.

Husband Steve rushed her down to the BGH, and Lewis arrived just over an hour later.

The 29-year-old mum was elated with her 6lb 6oz little boy. She said: “He is the best Christmas present you could ask for.

“It all happened really fast. One minute we were at home in Peebles, the next I was down at the hospital having Lewis. It’s one Christmas we won’t forget.”

All four mums and babies would like to thank the staff at the BGH.
