NEW Year’s Day was extra special for a Sussex couple visiting the Borders.

Christine and Jamie Herd, from Worthing, celebrated the birth of son Craig Lewis at Borders General Hospital.

He arrived at 6.54 a.m. on Sunday, weighing 8lbs 4 1/2 oz.

Proud father Jamie, who was brought up in Galashiels, was keen that his second child should maintain the family’s Borders link.

He said: “James was born in England, so we thought we’d come to Scotland and even the score!

“Because he was born on my parents’ 30th wedding anniversary, we needed another date that was easy to remember.

“January 1 seems an appropriate date.”

The New Year arrival of James was extra special for his grandfather, Bill, the Scottish Borders councillor for Kilnknowe & Clovenfords.

He said: “I’m absolutely delighted — it’s fantastic.”
