Bullock shot as it flees abbatoir
By Border Telegraph Newsroom
A BULLOCK was shot by a police marksman after it escaped from a pen in Galashiels last week.
The young animal fled from the Scottish Borders Abattoir in Winston Road at about 10 a.m. on Thursday.
The sharp-horned Highland bullock evaded capture for more than three hours, making its way along Melrose Road and through neighbouring residential areas.
A Lothian and Borders Police spokeswoman said: “It was eventually cornered in Ladhope Crescent.
“The beast became quite agitated and police felt that it was very dangerous.
“After considering all the options, it was decided to destroy it humanely.”
