POWER cuts left thousands of Galashiels residents in the dark last night.
A power cut from about 10.55 p.m. to 12.45 a.m. had about 2,700 residents without power—some for just 10 minutes, some for about an hour and a half.
A spokesperson for Scottish Power said that initial reports of supply problems were received at 10.55 p.m., and that engineers were sent immediately to the location to investigate.
The problem turned out to be an underground power cable fault, and once engineers were on the site, they began to carry out repairs that had some customers switched back on by 11:05 p.m.
“The vast majority had power returned to them by 12.20,” the spokesperson said. “And all our customers were back on at 12.55.”
Engineers are back on site to work on some permanent repairs.
“Obviously, we apologise for any inconvenience it might have caused,” the spokesperson said.
The cuts are not related, however, to power cuts in Clovenfords—the most recent being Monday afternoon from 12:48 p.m. to 2 p.m.—which have also been attributed to a fault on the system.
“It does happen. It happens all the time,” an employee for Scottish Power said, adding that they never know when the power cuts will occur.
“The Clovenfords cuts will be getting looked into,” she added.
“I do know people were quite annoyed. I have logged complaints.”
