A teenager has been found guilty of raping a Galashiels mum while awaiting trial for a similar sex attack.

A jury at the High Court in Edinburgh delivered their verdict on Scott Graham on Monday afternoon following a week-long trial.

They were told how the 19-year-old had raped a 47-year-old mum at her home in the town after they met in a local bar.

The court was told that despite going home to her flat alone, the beast turned up on her doorstep a short while later.

The victim told the trial: "Why pick on me? I didn't know him. I was just shocked. Why would he come to my door?

"I wasn't happy to see him and told him to get out of my house. I was just shocked at what had happened to me."

Graham forced the woman into a bedroom where he sexually assaulted her, ignoring her please and attempts to fight him off.

He forced her to perform sex acts as well as raping her.

Police were called to the Galashiels house after the victim managed to raise the alarm by phoning her daughter from her mobile phone.

Graham carried out the sordid attack in January whilst on bail awaiting trial for another rape - this time on a 16-year-old girl in a West Lothian college hostel.

He was released on bail from Linlithgow Sherriff Court on September 10 after denying the assault.

This week jury members found Graham guilty, by majority, of both charges, after hearing how he forced the teenage victim onto a bed in a "girls only" hostel.

She said: "I just kept saying 'no' and 'get off' and 'stop'".

Graham denied the rapes, claiming both women had been willing to have sex with him, but the jury rejected his story.

Judge Lord Philip told Graham that he would remain in custody to await sentence until background reports have been prepared.
