POOR weather conditions have been blamed for a plane crash which claimed the life of a retired RAF squadron leader, an official report has concluded.

David Trueman was enjoying a short pleasure flight over the Scottish Borders last December when the accident happened.

Investigators concluded that freezing conditions caused his light aircraft to lose power and then nose-dive into a clouded hilltop close to an airfield at Midlem, near Selkirk.

The investigation found no evidence of pilot error, nor any medical or mechanical cause for the accident.
