A CAT from the Borders is fighting for its life after being found shot with an arrow.

The pet moggie’s horrified owner, a seven-year-old boy from Newcastleton, was left distraught after the weapon was discovered sticking out of its body when it returned following a night out.

It suffered damaged vertebrae in the attack and was rushed to a vet for emergency treatment after the alarm was raised.

However, it is hoped the four-year-old cat, named Marmite, will pull through.

Police have launched an investigation and have appealed for witnesses.

It is believed the attack happening sometime between Monday evening and Tuesday lunchtime.

Animal welfare officers have condemned the incident.

The Police will be able to obtain DNA evidence from the arrow and catch the person responsible. When the person is caught you can then publish their name and address so that someone can shoot them with an arrow too.
