MELROSE will be anxiously hoping to make home advantage count when Aberdeen Grammar School visit The Greenyards on Saturday.

The Dons sit seven points ahead of the Borderers in the Division 1 table following their win over Stewart’s Melville, while Melrose need to win if they do not want to be involved in a relegation battle.

Melrose remain just six points ahead of bottom club Stirling County after their defeat at Ayr, a result which disappointed coach Craig Chalmers.

“We are not far from putting it together, just little things are going against us. A missed chance here, a missed tackle there and lots of bad luck.

“We’re not losing heart, but we can’t go on losing points. We are disappointed, but not downhearted. There is still a long way to go in this league.”

Hawick remain on the crest of a wave as they face a tricky visit to Biggar, who will not want to be caught out by early scores.

“We have been working really hard to make better starts,’ said Hawick backs coach John Hogg. “We have been getting everyone at boiling point in the warm-ups.”

In Division 2, Gala head off to play Edinburgh Accies, a side wanting to atone for their defeat at Berwick, a result which has dented their promotion hopes.

Selkirk will also need to pick up the pieces after their 60-7 defeat at Dundee when Murrayfield Wanderers come to Philiphaugh.

Elsewhere, Kelso and Jed-Forest go head to head in a local derby at Poynder Park while Berwick travel to Cartha Queen’s Park, the league’s surprise side.
