U turn on District League?
By Border Telegraph Sport
FORMER Border League president Allan Beveridge believes that local clubs should go back and play in the District League.
Mr Beveridge, now 2nd XV manager at Peebles, was speaking 48 hours before the Border League meets tomorrow night, Wednesday, for its regular meeting.
“I think a lot of the clubs are fed up of the travelling and they would get better competition in the Borders.”
Mr Beveridge was an advocate of a return to the District League during his term of presidency. Now he is also supported by the current president, Richard Chatfield, of Gala.
“We are open to discussions with the clubs to see if they want to come back and play in the Border District League,” said Mr Chatfield.
The League is also looking to recruit a secretary and treasurer.
This weekend, there’s a full league programme ahead of the Scotland international against Argentina, which kicks off at 5.30 p.m.
Most of the matches are expected to kick-off at 2 p.m. to allow people to get to Murrayfield.
Melrose faces a tough task as they head for leaders Glasgow Hawks knowing that they are still precariously close to the relegation zone.
Melrose will be looking to atone for the defeat by Hawks at the start of the season.
Hawick will be looking to make home advantage count when bottom club Stirling County visit Mansfield Park.
In Division 2, Gala are at home to Hillhead/Jordanhill while Selkirk will be looking to win at home against GHA.
