BILLY BRAWLEY snubbed Alloa Athletic to sign for the team they beat 9-0 in the Scottish Cup.

The 21-year-old midfield player was released by Clyde last week.

And despite attracting interest from the Wasps, as well as Elgin City and Albion Rovers, he opted to play the rest of the season at Selkirk.

Brawley told the Border Telegraph: “A few teams did come in for me last week, but I was happy with what Selkirk offered. I know the club well and I know all the boys down here.

“I wasn’t getting full games at Clyde and I really need to play football. I will hopefully get that for the rest of the season with Selkirk.

“It’s not that big a drop in class. Selkirk like to play good football and that suits me.”

The former Motherwell and Partick Thistle squad player made nine appearances for Graham Roberts’ team this season – including a start performance against Rangers at Ibrox in the league cup.

But in recent weeks he has fell out of favour at Broadwood – missing the historic Scottish Cup victory over Celtic.

Selkirk chairman Craig Douglas was quick to snap up the Blantyre-based player when he became available.

He said: “Billy played a few games for us last season, and we have stayed in touch with him and his family. When we heard that things weren’t working out at Clyde we approached both Billy and Graham Roberts to see if there was any way he could come back to Yarrow Park.

“Several other league clubs also showed an interest in him, but we put in an offer and he was more than happy to accept.

“We have him until the end of the season, and hope he will boost our squad enough to take us to promotion.”

Brawley will continue to train at Broadwood while playing for Selkirk at weekends.

His contract with the Souters will expire at the end of the season.
