Fired Robbo eyes up Peebles offer

SACKED Vale manager Stuart Robertson could be set to step back into football – as soon as he gets off the plane.

The school janitor from Innerleithen was fired after the Victoria Park side won only one of their opening seven games.

But within hours of his departure he was approached by close rivals Peebles to join their coaching staff.

And it is likely he will return to Whitestone Park when he flies back from a holiday in Portugal.

Robertson told the Border Telegraph: “I’m honoured to have been asked.

“Peebles are going really well just now and they have a good set up in place.

“I asked for a little time to think things over as I’d just lost the Vale job when they spoke to me, and I’ll let them know as soon as I’m back from holiday. I would expect to be saying yes but I’d like a little time to think about things first.”

“If I hadn’t been in Portugal I would have gone down to this week’s game against Gala Fairydean to meet the players.”

Under the guidance of management duo Mark Lamb and Rab Paget Peebles sit unbeaten at the top of the First Division.

Lamb said: “Stuart is a well respected football coach and we would love to have him as part of our team.”
