Tweedbank on fast-track to games
By David Knox
THE last time Tweedbank hosted a Border Athletics meeting Craig Fleming
produced one of the fastest times in Scotland this year for 100 metres.
Scotland’s leading Under 23 sprinter clocked 10.45 to break the tape
ahead of Hawick’s Dan Paxton.
But neither of the youngsters will be in Saturday’s line up searching
for the £300 purse.
And their absence throws the door open for Melrose flyer Peter Denholm
(7) to finally break the tape on the summer circuit.
Main dangers to the 24-year-old, who was runner up at Langholm, look
like coming from former schoolgirl national champion Amy Clancy (17) of
Peebles, Earlston’s Alan White (10), Craig Sowerby (7) from Seaton and
Jedburgh’s Greg Turnbull (4).
The north of England is well represented in the sprint with
Cramlington’s Peter Brown (12) and British veteran champion Neil
Armstrong (10) both looking capable of making the frame.
The full programme of youths and open athletics at Tweedbank Stadium
starts on Saturday at 2pm.
