Borders rugby on internet TV
By Atholl Innes
BORDERS rugby will be given a higher focus this season with a brand-new internet service.
Borders Rugby Television will be launched on Monday with a 10- minute show dedicated to promoting rugby in the Borders.
The “Borders Rugby Roundup” programme — available free online at www.BordersRugby.net — is a weekly show focusing on the nine core teams in the area, and the junior sides.
Each new programme is available every Monday and archived for viewing at any time after that.
The project is the brainchild of Stuart Cameron, who has been running Scottish Rugby Radio for three years, and who brings over 30 years experience as a presenter and producer in sports broadcasting to the table.
And he will be joined by a number of well known local broadcasters.
One of them is Richie Gray, TV presenter with STV’s “Scotsport Rugby Sunday”, and it’s Richie’s company, The Bar, which has signed up to become main sponsor.
“This is a venture I have been keen to work on for some time,” Cameron told the Border Telegraph.
“The technology is here to produce quality pictures on computers and that quality will get better and better.
“We can add another dimension to the excellent coverage in the Borders media, including the Border Telegraph.
“The website is packed with information to enhance the clubs’ own sites.”
As well as the weekly 10 minute programme each of the nine clubs will have their own TV channel.”
“I’ve been delighted with the response from many local businesses including our other main sponsor, Border Insurance Services, and Radio Borders,” he added.
Next year there will be a series of programmes, “Borders Rugby Greats” while the main programme will feature a roundup of the weekend’s matches including chat with players and coaches with live action highlights.
“It will also cover the latest news as well as video features for each of the local core clubs.”
