Edinburgh University, 3; Gala Fairydean, 2.
GALA Fairydean were taught a lesson in defending by Edinburgh University as they were kicked out the first cup competition of the season at the weekend.
However, the East of Scotland League Division One side almost forced the Premier Division club to replay their Image Printers Cup first-round tie following a frantic end to the game at Peffermill on Saturday.
They bounced back from three goals behind after a testing start to the match but the students sweated out a result and dedicated the victory to their President, Dr Andrew Ross, who died shortly before the season kicked-off.
Speaking to the Border Telegraph in the shadow of Arthur’s Seat at the end of the 90 minutes, Gala Fairydean co-manager Brian Templeton said: “I’m never chuffed when we get beat."
