CUP heroes Selkirk will have to forget their Hampden dream this week to prevent their league campaign turning into a nightmare.

Paul Brownlee’s team travel to face third-placed Lothian Thistle at Saughton Enclosure.

And the boss is hoping for another memorable performance to lift his side up the table. Brownlee told the Border Telegraph: “The league has to be our priority although we’ll all enjoy what the Scottish Cup throws up.

“Lothian have had a few good results so far, so it will be difficult to go up there any get anything, but we do have a great team spirit just now and I wouldn’t count us out.”

Selkirk will be without Barry Milven and Darren Munro for Saturday’s trip.

And tough-tackling midfielder Michael Mair is suspended for the game.

But former Hibs youth player Greig Young is being lined up for a move to the Souters ahead of Saturday’s match.

Brownlee added: “It’s up to the players who come into the starting team on Saturday to take their chance and make it difficult for the boys who are missing to get back into the team.”

Gala Fairydean went back to the top of the First Division with a convincing win over Civil Service Strollers at the weekend.

And co-boss Bryan Templeton wants another victory on Friday night against Kelso United to keep his promotion hopes alive.

Templeton told us: “Kelso were our bogey team last season and local derbies can often turn into a battle, but if we can play to our abilities then we should win.

“We need to keep picking up points each week and stay in contention – it would be difficult to play catch-up in this league.”

The Dean welcome back Jamie Gibson and Paul McKay to the squad for Friday’s floodlit game at Netherdale.

But Kelso will be depleted for the game after three players, including Paul Young and Des Burnett, will be suspended after picking up red cards last week against Stirling University.

Templeton added: “Kelso will still be a difficult match even if they aren’t at full strength.”

The Friday night match at Netherdale kicks off at 7pm and Saturday’s game at Saughton has a 2.30pm start.
