Dickson set for Selkirk return
By Atholl Innes
FORMER Selkirk favourite Ally Dickson is back training with Selkirk – and could make his return to the 1st XV on Saturday at Currie.
Dickson has been played for the 2nd XV and will add to Selkirk’s strength in depth.
“That makes us a wee bit stronger,” said coach Kevin Barrie.
“Ally has had work commitments, but now has more time and has come back to the club.”
Dickson played for Walkerburn before moving to Selkirk and then Melrose and had a spell as a professional with the Borders and also Edinburgh.
Barrie is hoping his side can make it three wins on the trot on the road at Malleny Park.
But he will still be without David Cassidy, concussed against Boroughmuir.
However, there were no serious injuries against Stirling while Ross Armstrong will again be available for selection.
“We will not be sitting back on our laurels. We want to build on what we have achieved this season,” said Barrie.
“That’s the halfway stage of the season, and it’s great to be where we are at present, but we have to move on from that.
“We have the ability to do it such as the character we showed at Stirling on Sunday. That is what we have shown all season.
“We must now keep that up and play with the confidence which we have gained from that – step it up and stay in the top half of the table.”
Kick-off is pencilled in for 12.15 p.m.
Melrose look to follow Selkirk and defeat league leaders Ayr at The Greenyards.
Melrose hope to make it five wins in a row after a disappointing sart to the season.
After beating Heriot’s in their last Premiership 1 game, forwards coach John Dalziel said that the game against Ayr was a yardstick for the rest of the year.
“It will be hard to peg them back, but we need to keep winning and there is a real determination to do that,” he said.
“We need to beat Ayr and need other clubs to take points off them as well.”
Hawick are in desperate need of points when Heriot’s visit Mansfield Part.
In Premiership 2, Gala have beated the Saturday scenario and brought their Premiership 2 fixture against Biggar to Friday night under the Netherdale floodlights.
Jed-Forest will play host to leaders Dundee High School FP while Kelso’s visit to Aberdeen has been switched to February 14.
