Mallorca Lee headlines night of Hard Kandy

ART-IST AT WORK: Clarkie Millar (left) on stage with DJ Dave Nelson. They will perform alongside Mallorca Lee during a night of Hard Kandy at Move on Friday night. Tickets (priced £8) are available on the doors which open at 10 p.m.
IT’S Millar time…
While the pink posters plastered all over the place confirm Mallorca Lee, best known as the voice of Public Domain, Ultra-Sonic and the Warps Bros, will headline one of the biggest club nights in the Borders of the year this weekend; another DJ will take centrestage.
Clarkie Millar, aka Art Newman, has organised the night of Hard Kandy at Move in Galashiels on Friday.
He came up with the idea for his club nights while spinning tunes in the garage of his former home in the town when the Border Telegraph first spoke to him almost a decade ago, and is now a household name at clubs across Scotland.
Millar has attracted some of the biggest names in dance music – including Radio One DJ Judge Jules, Kelly Llorenna of N-Trance, and superstar DJ Anne Savage - to some of the most obscure venues in the country, from Alloa to Ayr, Inverness to Paisley, and Kirkcaldy to Tullibody.
And now he has organised a homecoming gig in the Borders as he warms up to play Fantazia, at the Braehead Arena in Glasgow later this month, and Fantasylands, at Ingliston in Edinburgh in November – arguably the biggest raves in the world.
Speaking to Time-Out ahead of the night of Hard Kandy at Move this week, Millar said: “The place is going to be jumping.
“Having lived in the Borders, I know how frustrating it can be for people to get to gigs – it often involves trips up to Edinburgh and Glasgow.”
But he added: “Hard Kandy basically began to bring some of the country’s best DJs to their doorstep and the success of the club nights has been unbelievable.”
DJ Dave Nelson (Future, Atlantics, Kavos, Corfu), MC/DJ Madman (Fantasylands, Fantazia), and Craig Rob DJ & Mitchell (Headfunk) will also perform a set behind the decks, along with Border Telegraph reporter - and serial blagger - Ally McGilvray, who will make a special guest appearance on the night.
Tickets for the gig, which will also include a laser show and CD giveaways, are available on the door which opens at 10 p.m.
However, before all that, Ultrabeat PA, best known for dance anthem ‘Pretty Green Eyes’ – which reached number two in the charts in August 2003 - will play at Move tomorrow night (Thursday), from 9 p.m.
The events have been organised to celebrate Freshers Week at Heriot-Watt University, as the students return to the campus at Netherdale following the summer break. However, the whole of the Borders has been invited.
See you there…
Please note: The boys from cheesey chart-toppers S Club Seven will make an appearance at Move tonight (Wednesday) – but this gig is for students only.
