Country Clothing - Choose Style

Country clothing - what's the appeal? For some it's chic fashion, even if the closest they get to fresh air and green fields is Sunday lunch at their local country house hotel. For others, those with straw in their hair and dung beneath their fingernails, Country clothing is a necessity, not a choice.

But whether we're talking checked skirts and tailored waistcoats or padded jackets and mud-spattered wellies, whatever you choose to be seen in, co-ordination is the key to looking your best.

For the lady-of-the manor look, up-market fashion boutiques and in-store concessions should supply your needs, as well as mail order country clothing catalogues.

For those who prefer practicality to posing, tack shops, equestrian and shooting outlets are the places to go, although even here style needn't be compromised. With so many great fabrics available these days, warm and waterproof can still be flattering. Build up layers with cute cotton undies and cosy fleeces.

Long gone are the days of boring black gum boots too. Now you'll find them in every shade and pattern - from red tartan to pink marshmallows. And nothing is more flattering to the slimmer frame than a pair of figure-hugging jodhpurs.

Don't be tempted to wear them unless you're actually going riding though - unless the equestrian look is currently "in", you'll simply appear dated. Stick to classic cord and timeless tweed for that gentrified look that says "gentility" not "geriatric"! Just experiment a little, and you'll soon find the Country clothing style that suits you.
