A PENSIONER was left fighting for his life following a horrific head on car crash in the Borders.
The 76-year-old man was rushed to hospital after his Fiat Panda was in collision with an articulated lorry on the B6357 road one mile south of Newcastleton on Sunday around 1.40pm.
Emergency services rushed to the scene after the alarm was raised.
However, the pensioner had to be cut free from the wreckage of his vehicle before being taken to the Cumberland Infirmary where he remained in a critical condition.
The driver of the lorry was uninjured and police are now appealing for any motorists who were on the road at the time of the incident and have information that can assist with enquiries is asked to contact police immediately.
A police spokesman said: "This collision that has left one man in an extremely serious condition in hospital and we are eager to hear from anyone who may have information that can assist our investigation.
"We are continuing with our enquiries to determine the circumstances surrounding this collision and would urge anyone who may have witnessed it to come forward."
