SOME of Scotland's most influential music people will gather in Galashiels next week.

Off The Record will take place at MacArts Centre on Saturday, December 5.

The event is aimed at 14 to 25 year olds who hope to have a career in the music industry.

Amongst the speakers is Justine Ward from the management team behind Primal Scream and Texas.

Nick Roberts from the Electric Fields Festival at Drumlanrig Castle, Claire Donna of Soma Records and Radio Scotland producer Amy Ferguson will also give talks.

Michael Lambert, co-director of Born To Be Wide which has organised the event, said: “Musicians and those interested in working in the business often need help when it comes to releasing and promoting their music, as well as getting their first gigs.

“Off The Record provides the basic knowledge to get started and ensures they avoid the most common mistakes.

“Everyone speaking at the event works with emerging artists and budding industry professionals, and as several speakers are in same age group as the audience, they are perfectly placed to talk about how to get work in the business.”

Other speakers include Grainne Braithwaite from Synergy Concerts, sound engineer Nora Winstanley of Henry's Cellar Bar, and Toni Malyn from EmuBands.

James Mackintosh, Youth Music Forum co-ordinator added: “Off The Record is a unique opportunity to get the practical skills for working in music and is relevant for both musicians and anyone interested in working on the industry side.”

Off The Record runs from 10.30am to 5pm on Saturday, December 5, with tickets priced at £2 including lunch.
