LEGENDARY songwriter Boo Hewerdine is String Jam Club's first headline artist of 2016, appearing at the County Hotel in Selkirk this Saturday. The former frontman of The Bible is regarded as one of Britain's most consistently accomplished songwriters.

A regular collaborator with Eddi Reader over many years, his melodic and deceptively simple songs have also been covered by such greats as k d Lang, Chris Difford, Kris Drever, Jerry Douglas, Paul Young, Natalie Imbruglia and Mary Chapin Carpenter.

Boo's eventful career spans three decades and his back catalogue contains numerous solo and collaborative albums - including recordings with bands The Bible and State of the Union, EPs, singles, film and television soundtracks, including Nick Hornby's film adaptation of his book Fever Pitch, and a vast amount of production work for other leading artists.

Boo's best-loved song Patience of Angels was nominated for the Ivor Novello Award in 1995.

Allie Fox from the String Jam Club is delighted to have lured Boo back to the Borders. She told us: "String Jam Club welcomes everyone who loves music, and this show offers you nothing short of the best.

"If you haven't see Boo Hewerdine before, here's your chance to experience one of the UK's finest lyricists live and up close at the Borders haven of music at the County Hotel."

Boo's 2014 career retrospective release, My Name in Brackets, received rave reviews, including four stars in the Daily Express, and Folk Radio UK's Album of the Month Award.

His most recent album, Open, reached number 5 on the Daily Telegraph's Best Folk Albums of 2015 and is a collection of unreleased recordings, all carrying the unmissable signature Hewerdine hallmarks - craft, emotion, melody and pure quality.

Not only a songwriter, recording artist and producer of great renown, Boo is also a live performer par excellence whose shows are simply packed with wonderful warmth, wit and emotional depth.

Boo will be supported by special guests and friends, the fast-rising band Dark Green Tree, whose immaculate debut album, Secret Lives, was produced by Boo himself.

Tickets are on sale now (£14) from the venue and are bookable by phone 01750 721233.

Doors open for Saturday's String Jam Club with Boo Hewerdine at 7.30pm.
