AULD Earlston, the local heritage group is holding an open day and exhibition commemorating Earlston's railway on Saturday February 27 in the Church Hall, High Street, Earlston.

The focus of the exhibition will be a preview of the group's latest project "Remembering Earlston's Railway (1863-1965)". Twenty photographs have been selected to be turned into display pictures which will shortly go on show at shops and other venues throughout the village.

The Community Group at Earlston Primary School has been involved interviewing grandparents and older residents to gather their memories of the railway, with the results also on show at the exhibition.

There is the chance to browse though more vintage photographs of the village, watch a rolling slide show and chat over tea and coffee with members of the Auld Earlston Group.

Susan Donaldson from the Auld Earlston group said: “We are currently busy producing framed and laminated  photographs for display in shops and venues around the village ahead of the open day. This promises to be a wonderful day for anyone with memories of the railway as it used to be, or even people who are simply curious about the history of Earlston. We would encourage people of any age to call in and see what we are doing. All are most welcome.”

Funding from Scottish Borders Council Railway Celebration Fund and the Community Grant Scheme has been made available for the project.

The event takes place on Saturday February 27 in the Church Hall, High Street, Earlston from 10am-3pm. Entry is £2 incl. tea/coffee. Free entry for children.
