A STUNNING exhibition of ceramic art is on show at the Scott Gallery, Hawick Museum until May 25.

Featuring the work of 20 different artists the free exhibition, titled A Taste of Potfest, provides an inspiring insight into the work of craft potters from both sides of the Border.

Staged by Live Borders in conjunction with Geoff Cox, the originator of the annual Potfest events held in Penrith and Perth, the exhibition showcases a range of beautiful works that illustrate the amazing diversity of style and interpretation that it is possible to achieve using clay.

Elizabeth Hume, Visual Arts Officer, Live Borders said: “A Taste of Potfest is a must visit exhibition for all pottery lovers, collectors and anyone interested in gaining an introduction to ceramic art.  It brings together a unique collection of works from twenty different potters, highlighting talent from both sides of the Border and providing proof that potters close to home are capable of creating pieces of an international standard.”

Inspired by attending the International Ceramics Festival in Eindhoven, Holland in 1990, Geoff Cox and his wife Christine devised the idea to create Potfest, an opportunity for potters to come together, inspire each other and sell their works to the public. The first Potfest was held in Penrith in 1994 and events this year will include Potfest in the Park, Potfest in the Pen and Potfest Scotland. Up to 250 potters from across the UK, mainland Europe and beyond participate each year.

Elizabeth continued: “I would strongly encourage visitors who enjoy our Taste of Potefest exhibition to consider attending one of the main Postfest events this year, either at Scone Palace, Perth in June or at Penrith, Cumbria in July and August. I am sure they will find them a real feast for the eyes and senses.”

Ewan Jackson, Chief Executive of Live Borders added: “A Taste of Potfest is just one of the events taking place as part of the diverse exhibition programme we have planned.  Also running at the moment is the Hawico cashmere exhibition at Borders Textile Towerhouse in Hawick and we have many more events in the pipeline that will highlight different aspects of the cultural make-up of our region.”

A Taste of Potfest will run until Wednesday May 25, at The Scott Gallery, Hawick Museum, Wilton Lodge Park in Hawick.

The exhibition is open from Monday-Friday 10am, to 12pm and 1pm to 5pm. Saturday and Sunday is 2pm- to 5pm. Admission is free.
