AUTHOR Clifton Bain is heading to Galashiels for an evening of insights into Scotland's very own rainforests.

The talk at the Heriot-Watt Campus is part of the RSGS Inspiring People programme.

The Edinburgh based author will be speaking on February 28 about the beauty of our country’s ancient pinewoods and rainforests.

Clifton, who has decades of experience working with environmental programmes, hopes to pass his passion for all things green onto his audience.

Clifton told us: “Visiting Scotland’s Celtic rainforests is an illuminating experience putting the traveller in close touch with our deepest living history. "Scotland’s venerable Celtic rainforests do not often hit the limelight but as ancient survivors these woods have so many stories to tell if we take the time to listen.

“The Atlantic rainforests where moss clad boulders and contorted branches festooned with wonderful ferns and lichens give a Tolkienesque atmosphere.

"No wonder our Celtic ancestors revered these special places. Every time I visit them I experience true contentment.

“I look forward to sharing my travels round these magical ancient woods and hopefully inspiring people to make their own journeys to these wonderful natural windows to our past.”

Clifton’s talk is open to all and tickets are available via rsgs.org or at the door.

The talk will start at 7:30pm on Tuesday, February 28 at the Herriot Watt, Scottish Borders Campus, Nether Road, TD1 3HE.

Tickets are free to RSGS members, students and U18s or are £10 for non-members and £8 for Tiso Outdoor Experience cardholders.
