A SERIES of family history guidance sessions will take place in Galashiels Library throughout April.

Designed for anyone wanting to delve into their Scottish ancestry, the sessions will be managed by Live Borders Libraries and Archives staff.

The events will include training in genealogy with staff on-hand to answer any queries.

There will also be free use of online resources during the sessions.

Ewan Jackson, chief executive Live Borders, said: “As we are currently within the centenary commemorations of the First World War the two sessions with a WWI focus will hopefully aid those currently undertaking, or hoping to undertake, research into the experience of their ancestors or the impact of the Great War on the Scottish Borders.”

The first session on Tuesday, April 4, Tracing your Scottish Family History, will allow members of the public to drop in with any questions about how and where to begin.

The two sessions with a WWI theme, which are being run in partnership with the Saving and Sharing Scottish Borders Stories of WWI project, will look at the Ancestry Library Edition’s British Army WWI Service Records and the digitised Scottish Borders Newspapers between 1914 and 1918.

The project is supported by the Scottish Government Public Library Quality Improvement Fund.
