SCOTLAND'S very own musical treasure is heading for Galashiels.

Pre-eminent singer-songwriter Dougie MacLean will headline an evening of homegrown talent at the Volunteer Hall on Saturday, June 17.

Providing support will be phenomenal Galashiels band Mills and the emerging talent from Peebles, Millie Hanlon Cole.

Event promoter Bill Jeffrey told us: "Dougie has received numerous gold discs for album sales, two prestigious Tartan Clef Awards, a place in the Scottish Music Hall of Fame, a Lifetime Achievement Award from BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards and an OBE in the New Year Honours list.

"He is a musical legend and he is coming to Galashiels to help to highlight the high standard of musical talent we have in the Scottish Borders.

"Millie Hanlon Cole a massively talented singer songwriter and Mills will be using the concert to launch their highly-anticipated debut CD, Where Do You Go."

Dougie MacLean has built an international reputation as a songwriter, composer and extraordinary performer which has led to concerts and festivals all over the world, including New York's Carnegie Hall, Glasgow’s Royal Concert Hall and London’s Festival Theatre.

His ending of the Closing Ceremony of the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, with Kylie Minogue and Lulu, was viewed by over a billion people worldwide.

MacLean’s songs have been covered by a host of artists, including Paolo Nutini, Amy MacDonald, Ronan Keating, Mary Black, Frankie Miller and Kathy Mattea.

And his biggest hit, Caledonia, has become one of Scotland's most popular contemporary songs.

The Galashiels gig will also provide the perfect opportunity for Millie Hanlon Cole to perform in front of a large audience.

The Peebles High pupil has been winning fans with her low-key gigs and appearances over the past year.

Also taking to the Volunteer Hall stage for the June concert will be local band, Mills.

Bruce Henry, Ross Gardiner, Richard Crawford, Rab Irvine and Craig Jeffrey have signed to Vertical Records.

And they have just finished recording their debut album with Donald Shaw, founder member of Capercaillie and Artistic Director at Celtic Connections.
