NEXT Saturday in Melrose Parish Church a concert lasting about one hour will be given by two pianists and four singers to celebrate the 70th birthday of internationally-renowned Borders’ pianist, John Bryden.
And the event will funds for two charities that help children in need across the world.
The programme will be of works by Mozart, Schubert, Kenneth Leighton and Brahms, to include the composer’s Liebeslieder (love songs).
John will perform along with Andrew Wendon.
As the Dartington Piano Duo, they are well-known for their previous appearances and recordings.
They will be joined by Collen Nicoll, soprano and Carole Clarke, mezzo-soprano, Ivor Klayman, baritone and Jonathan Aldridge, tenor.
One of the charities supported, ‘Viva Together For Children’ is passionate about releasing children from poverty and child abuse.
Last year Viva reached 1.42 million children in 22 countries, working with 5,500 churches and community organisations.
The other, ‘War Child’, helps children in war-torn areas, keeping them safe, giving them an education and equipping them with skills for the future.
Tickets for the concert, on Saturday, June 24, at noon, are £10 at the door and free for accompanied children.
