ABBOTSFORD is set to present two of Shakespeare’s favourite plays, Romeo and Juliet and Twelfth Night, performed by The Three Inch Fools later this month.

The gardens of the home of Sir Walter Scott will be taken over by the talented troupe of young actors who bring Shakespeare’s works to life using their quick wits and instruments.

This summer they will present the Bard's beloved and tragic tale of two young star-crossed lovers, Romeo and Juliet on Saturday, July 15 and on the Sunday, July 30, his amusing comedy Twelfth Night promises to delight audiences of all ages.

Audiences were enthralled by last year’s performance of Macbeth, and they can expect to be just as entertained this summer.

Giles Ingram, chief executive of Abbotsford, told us: "Both evenings promise to be hugely enjoyable.

"We look forward to welcoming back the talented group of actors as well as inviting the public to enjoy Abbotsford’s house and gardens as the perfect backdrop to Shakespeare’s works.

“This year, we are thrilled to hold two performances.

"The sun will shine of course, but just in case it doesn’t we have Ochiltree’s café standing by as an indoor theatre and picnic area.”

All ticket holders are welcome to bring their own picnics on the night and explore the tranquil setting of the gardens before the performance. Refreshments and a cash bar will be also available.

The gardens open from 5.30pm with both performances starting at 7pm and ending at 9.30pm - there will also be a short interval half-way through the performance.

Tickets, priced at will be £14 for adults, £12.60 for Friends of Abbotsford, and £12 for concessions and under 17s, can be booked on the Abbotsford website, by phone on 01896 752043, or in person at the Abbotsford visitor centre.
