IT'S being described as an Antiques Roadshow for the really old stuff.

On Saturday (August 5), Live Borders is hosting its very first Finds Day at Jedburgh Castle Jail.

An expert from the Treasure Trove Unit will be on hand throughout the day - from 11am to 3pm - to provide information on finds made by the public.

Scott Holmes from Live Borders told us: "This is a great chance to bring any objects which you have found, perhaps while gardening, walking, farming or metal detecting, and show them to Dr Stuart Campbell, head of the Treasure Trove Unit based in Edinburgh.

"Chance discoveries of artefacts by members of the public have the potential to make a significant contribution to our understanding of Scotland’s past."

The role of Treasure Trove is to ensure that finds of cultural significance from around the country are protected for the benefit of the nation.

Dr Campbell will discuss any finds which are brought in and answer any questions about the Treasure Trove system.

Admission to Finds Day and Jedburgh Castle as a whole is free.

Mr Holmes added: "While at the Jail there is the opportunity to see the Treasures Found exhibition which showcases a fascinating range of material which has been found in and around Jedburgh.

"It includes many Treasure Trove items, ranging from coins to stone axes, jewellery to a Medieval cooking pot."

Finds Day runs from 11am to 3pm on Saturday.
