IT was like a rock 'n’ roll reunion at the Border Club, Hawick on Saturday night as the audience gathered to hear another one of Louden Temples US imports – Greg Trooper.

However, before a single chord was played, the infamous, Tex the Ted, from Canonbie has stolen the show.

Tex who is a well known and familiar face at many live music events in the Scottish Borders brought along a selection of press cuttings from over the decades.

One article in particular had Border Club members intrigued. A cutting from the Evening News and Star reported how Tex the Ted introduced the Duke of Edinburgh to Hawick band Johnny and the Roccos at a gig in Edinburgh back in 1980.

Tex was having a pre-gig drink with the band when Prince Philip arrived and asked him why he was here. Dressed in his Teddy Boy outfit Tex said “I’m here for the Rock 'n’ Roll – come and meet the band” and subsequently introduced the Prince to each member of the band.

Lead singer of Johnny and the Roccos commented, on Saturday night, “it was fantastic to see Ted and his newspaper cuttings, it brought back a lot of memories for me and the boys”.
