COPS have carried out further raids around the central Borders this week as they target the region's drug dealers.

Houses in Galashiels, Earlston and Hawick were targetted over the weekend as part of Operation Goal.

Officers from the Lothian and Borders force made seven arrests bringing the total facing charges since the anti-drugs operation began last month to 38.

Detective Chief Inspector Amanda McGrath said: "We continue to build our intelligence picture for those involved in the supply of drugs within the Scottish Borders.

"I am buoyed by the continued support of our local communities, who have made it clear through the information they provide our officers with, that they will not tolerate drug dealers operating in their area.

"However, we cannot rest on the success we've had so far and officers will keep on engaging with local residents in their policing areas to obtain more information on drug crime."

This latest development comes just hours after 28-year-old Darren Crawford from Galashiels became the first offender to be locked up following the operation.

He was jailed for eight months this week at Selkirk Sheriff Court after pleading guilty to dealing heroin.

DCI McGrath added: "Anyone who wishes to report drug-related criminal activity in their community can contact police, or alternatively the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
