POLICE have named a cyclist killed in a road smash in the Borders.
Fifty-three-year-old Mark Sanderson, from Lochrin Place, Edinburgh, was travelling north on the A703 road just north of Peebles when he was involved in a head-on collision with a Fiat Panda, travelling in the opposite direction.
It is believed he may have become unwell, lost control of the bicycle and veered onto the southbound carriageway moments before the tragedy on Monday, August 6, around 4.20pm.
Witnesses administered first aid until emergency services arrived, however he was pronounced dead at the scene.
A police spokesperson said: "Enquiries are ongoing to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident, however anyone who may have witnessed the incident is asked to contact Galashiels Police Station on 01896 664545 or the Force Communication Centre on 0131 311 3131."
