THE Mini Maroons hosted a rugby tournament for primary school children in the Galashiels area and the large number of supporters who braved the cold were treated to some great running rugby.

The Galashiels Primary Schools Select team won the Primary 4 and 5 age group. They were followed by Stow and Clovenfords in second place, St Peters in third and Heriot in fourth.

St Peter's Primary School won the Primary 6 & 7 age group, followed close behind by second place Heriot, Stow and Clovenfords in third, and the Select team in fourth.

Gala Rugby Club mascot Roony made a special appearance at the event and presented the winners with special trophies donated by the Mini Maroons.

Gala Rugby Development Officer Ian G Millar said: "A great time was had by all in what was a feast of good running rugby, played in true sporting spirit, and all of the children are a credit to their schools and coaches.

"Thanks to all involved to the Mini Maroons for providing the trophies and the goodies, the coaches, teachers, parents and of course the children who took part."

Training sessions for the Mini Maroons take place every Saturday morning at Netherdale from 9.30am to 10.30am and, as from this Saturday, will be on the 3G pitch. All primary school aged children are welcome. For further details contact Ian G Millar on 077327 99083.
