LOCAL independence campaigners are hosting a meeting aimed at swaying the Borders business community.

Business for Scotland Director Ivan McKee along with Derek Cameron of Scotmas Ltd will present their economic arguments in favour of a Yes vote at the Borders College Campus in Galashiels on Tuesday.

The meeting comes just a fortnight after deputy First Minister Nicola Sturgeon headlined a rally in the town.

Local Business for Scotland representative Alistair White told us; “The event is for anyone interested in the business case for independence.

“We believe that it is fundamentally better for Scottish business and the Scottish economy, if all appropriate economic decisions, fiscal and legislative levers, are controlled by those best placed to understand, and who care most about the needs of our economy – that is, the people of Scotland.

“We are delighted to get business people of the stature of Ivan McKee and Derek Cameron to speak in the Borders and they will outline that here is no doubt that Scotland has existing significant economic strengths and untapped potential, in many business sectors.” The event is free to attend with tickets available through the Business for Scotland website events page or the Eventbrite website.

Tuesday’s meeting starts at 6pm.
