A COFFEE morning in Peebles has been hailed a huge success by the voluntary organisers.

And the cash raised could kick start a series of workshops for survivors with acquired brain injuries.

National charity Momentum has been supporting sufferers all over Peeblesshire for almost a decade in their own homes.

But a recent surge in numbers has led to a specific support group being launched in Peebles earlier this year.

The charity held a coffee morning, organised by Hannah Mitchell, in the Ex Servicemen’s Club - and raised a whopping £560.

Katy Harkin, Momentum’s regional rehab manager, said: “The Peebles Support Group will meet later this month to decide the best way to use the money for its members.

“A suggested idea is to have a six-to-eight week course of activities and skill building workshops in Peebles for service users. “Each week would focus on a different activity - such as relaxation/meditation, first aid, arts and languages - to ensure there is something for everyone. “We received lots of donations and prizes from local shops for our coffee morning, which we are extremely grateful for and the volunteers were fantastic.” The Peebles support group is open to anyone with an acquired brain injury, their families and their carers.

As well as the support group in Peebles, Momentum also organises similar groups in the central Borders and Berwickshire as well as providing a vocational rehabilitation programme, funded by Scottish Borders Council, at its centre in Galashiels.
