THIS Saturday will see the Labour party in the Scottish Borders campaign in Galashiels against the proposed Trade Union bill changes.

The bill, which passed its second reading last week at Westminster, proposes to curb union activity and prevent strikes.

Local Labour party spokesperson Barrie Cunning said: "At the heart of this bill is an ideology motivated by taking away the rights of the ordinary worker in favour of business and making money.

"It's a clear attack on civil liberties and democracy its self.

"David Cameron has previously spoke about Labour going back to 1983 but should this bill become law it will be this Tory government that will be taking this country back to the times of division and despair which we had during the miners strike."

Adjustments can be made to the bill when it comes before committee next month.

Alex Rowley, Deputy Leader of the Scottish Labour Party, will be joining the local Labour party at the Galashiels rally.

He said: "This weekend members and supporters are on the streets all over Scotland campaigning against this undemocratic legislation which is an attack on workers, on their families and on public services.”

The Kill the Bill campaign will be taking place from 11am to 1pm at Market Square, Galashiels.

Everyone who wants to support the Trade Unions is more than welcome to attend.
