THE grieving family of a Galashiels teenager who took her own life are completing a summer bucket list for charity.

Aaliyah Sutherland was only 13 when she committed suicide on May 17 at her home in Clovenfords.

Just a few weeks before the tragedy, she had written a lengthy list of things she wanted to do during the summer.

Her heartbroken family discovered the wish list amongst her possessions.

And over the past couple of months they have been gradually ticking off each ofAaliyah's wishes.

Mum, Lisa Bond, told us: "Aaliyah wrote her summer bucket list in March, of all the things she wanted to do during the summer.

"It's a long list and there's no way she'd have done everything, but we decided we'd try to do it for her.

"Doing Aaliyah's bucket list keeps her with us in a way - she'll definitely be laughing at some of the things we're doing."

The popular teenager's death shocked the entire community as well as fellow pupils and staff at Earlston High School.

Taking part in the bucket list challenge is mum Lisa and Aaliyah's older sister, Keira.

So far they have let go of a Chinese lantern, swam in the sea, got sun tans, had a day at the beach and also went to France.

And Lisa has also managed a few of the rebellious teenager listings, which included getting a telling off from the police and getting drunk.

Lisa said: "A lot of the things have been straightforward enough, like visiting a waterfall or going to the beach but a few, like the police one, wasn't so easy.

"We are slowly getting through each one and we'll keep doing it, however long it takes us."

Both mum and big sister are about to embark on a journey to visit a place for each letter of the alphabet in the coming weeks.

But beforehand they will take part in a walk-through of the McDonald's drive-thru.

So far Lisa and Keira have raised almost £2,000 for Childline with a collection at Aaliyah's funeral, a Just Giving page, collection boxes at the Co-op in Galashiels and the sale of wristbands.

They will be also be collecting with buckets during the walk-through at McDonald's in Galashiels next Thursday.

Lisa added: "I had no idea how we could do a walk-through at McDonald's but when we contacted them they were so enthusiastic about helping us.

"They have offered to close the drive-thru for an hour to allow us to do the walk-through - they have been brilliant.

"We'll have a collection bucket for Childline and hope to see as many of Aaliyah's friends as possible joining us.

"We hope we can have people walking through for the whole hour - they can order their food like you would do in a car and then collect it at the window. Anyone who would like to walk through the drive-thru should come and join us - everyone is welcome."

The McDonald's drive-thru walk-through takes place next Thursday (October 15) between 2.30pm and 3.30pm.
