TALKS will start in the new year over replacement housing to replace demolished flats in Galashiels.

The Rose Court flats in Langlee have been razed to the ground over the past fortnight.

It was considered by housing chiefs that the five-storey blocks, which were built in the 1970s, no longer met required standards.

Scottish Borders Housing Association's board of management agreed earlier this year to replace the apartments with new housing.

And decisions on the type and size of properties will be made after the festive holidays.

Maria Lyle, Director of Housing at SBHA, told the Border Telegraph: “We have now brought back into use over 100 properties in the Borders which, like Rose Court were difficult to let or no longer met the needs of our tenants, and we plan to build on these successes at Rose Court.

"Feedback from our tenants is telling us that expectations are changing and that, as a housing provider, we need to meet these new demands.

"Rose Court is in a prime location to deliver quality, affordable homes for the area and we will be talking to the community in the New Year about future housing options for the site.”
