CHRISTMAS comes to Galashiels on Saturday.

A packed day of festive delights will see the town's Christmas lights switched on and a spectacular fireworks display take place.

Gala Rotary, Galashiels Chamber of Trade and Gala Events Group have teamed up to make sure everyone has a day to remember.

Tom Ingoldsby from Gala Rotary told the Border Telegraph: "Why take the train to Edinburgh when all this is happening in Gala?

During the day long extravaganza there will be something for everyone."

A Christmas Market will get under way from 10am at the Channel Street Piazza and also at Douglas Bridge.

As well as plenty stalls there will also be face painting, balloon sculpture, a wild bird display.

There will be a Family Fancy Dress Competition throughout the day and special guest Santa will be coming to Galashiels by train.

Later in the day, Langlee Choir will be singing around the Christmas tree in Bank Street ahead of the Christmas Lights switch-on.

And the festive fun will cumulate in a fantastic fireworks display at Scott Park.

Tom added: "Market stalls include Christmas presents, sweets, jewellery, cheeses, fresh bread and the ever popular Inner Wheel hot crepes.

"With Gala having an ever increasing range of shops, local niche stores and large multiples as well as a wide variety of eating places, cafes, pubs and restaurants, all in all, this will be a great day out for everyone."

The Clelland Trophy for best dressed Christmas shop window will be judged on Friday and the trophy presented by Santa on Saturday.
