THE body of a teenager has been found on a remote estate near Duns.
It is understood that 19-year-old Mathew Tyson's death was a result of a firearms accident, although official sources are still establishing the facts.
Police were called to 3,000 acre Horseupcleugh Estate yesterday (Wednesday) morning at 9.30am.
A Police Scotland spokesman told us: "Police in Duns attended at a field near Horseupcleugh Farm, Longformacus after the body of a man was discovered around 9.30 am on Wednesday.
"Inquiries are ongoing but there appear to be no suspicious circumstances."
Alex Jameson, Manager of the Horseupcleugh Estate, confirmed the teenage gamekeeper's death was an accident.
Mr Jameson said: “This was a tragic accident. Our thoughts are with Mathew’s family.
"We are assisting the authorities.”
A spokesman for The Scottish Gamekeepers Association added: “Mathew was very highly regarded.
"This is a terrible loss to his family, friends and colleagues and we send strength to his family at this very difficult time.”
