FIREFIGHTERS and water rescue teams from Galashiels rescued a man trapped on the roof of his mini bus in Hawick earlier today.
On arrival crews discovered the mini bus in Denholm deep in flood water. They managed to safely remove the man and take him to safety.
Crews have also been called out to various incidents in the Hawick and Jedburgh area to pump out flood water.
Local Senior Officer Alasdair Perry said: “Operational crews and Control personnel are working hard over this period of intense activity for the emergency services. Most incidents have been resolved quickly and on occasions through a coordinated multi agency response.”
“Measures have been taken to ensure we always had sufficient resources to respond wherever they were needed. We remain fully prepared to protect communities throughout the Borders during this period of difficult weather and will continue to respond wherever we are needed.”
“In this type of weather I would urge people to follow advice issued by Flood line Scotland, our Police Scotland colleagues and by Transport Scotland, which will help them stay safe and avoid running into difficulty on the roads.”
