AN estimated 300 homes in Hawick and 50 homes in Jedburgh have been evacuated due to rapidly rising water levels in the region.
At this time it is understood that around nine households in Jedburgh will require temporary accommodation, while a similar number in Bonchester Bridge have also been affected by flooding.
In Hawick, Teviot Crescent and a number of business premises have been affected.
As forecast, the rain cleared by around midday, and river levels in Jedburgh and Hawick peaked earlier this afternoon.
The impact of the heavy rain this morning resulted in similar river levels in Hawick as during Storm Desmond in December, although in this instance the levels rose far more quickly.
The River Tweed at Kelso is expected to peak at around 5pm, and the A699 at Springwood Park has already been closed due to flood water. The A698 at Mounthooly has also been closed due to flooding.
River levels will remain high for some time across the region.
The A68 south of Bonjedward, near Jedburgh, remains closed and is likely to remain so for some time until flood water recedes and the road is cleared of significant debris. Diversions are in place.
