TRAFFIC cops clocked a driver reaching speeds of more than 100 miles-per-hour along the Melrose bypass on Friday.
The driver has been charged with dangerous driving and speeding, and will appear in court at a later date.
A Police Scotland spokesman said: "On Friday afternoon on the A6091 policing officers detected a local driver travelling in excess of 100mph.
"In addition it had been raining heavily at the time, on a route which is often busy with local commuters and visitors to the Borders General Hospital.
"Clearly a significant risk was posed to road users, and this driver has found himself reported to the courts for both speeding and dangerous driving."
The A6091 is a notorious stretch of road for crashes.
The spokesman added: "Roads Policing officers will continue to prioritise enforcement activity to those routes where we see higher numbers of speed related collisions."
