THE former Tranent Infant School building was broken into over the bank holiday weekend after vandals forced their way through metal fencing.
East Lothian Council said a team was sent to the building, which sits on Sanderson’s Wynd in the town, after the incident was reported on Monday.
They found a window broken but said that the damage had been minimal.
The incident follows a number of reports of problems with the former Fa’side Lodge care home, which is on neighbouring Church Street, and which has also been targeted by vandals.
A council spokesperson said that staff had visited the former school building and carried out repairs to the fencing and window.
She said: “Community wardens and police are aware of issues at the Tranent Infant School and Fa’side Lodge buildings and we are working with them.
“The damage to the school was minimal and it has been checked and made secure.”
