LARGE crowds greeted the arrival of the Selkirk Standard Bearer in Galashiels this evening for Spurs Night.

Braw Lad Mark Hood and Braw Lass Alex Mundell extended the hand of friendship to Selkirk Standard Bearer Rory Monks, in the traditional curtain raiser for a summer of festivities.

Border Telegraph:

Standard Bearer Monks made his way across Galafoot shortly after 6.30pm and then the Selkirk and Gala Principals –and plenty of young riders- made their way into the town centre.

Border Telegraph:

A warm welcome is always assured, and this year was no different.

Speaking to the Border Telegraph, Braw Lad Mark Hood said:  “The people from Galashiels and Selkirk who have come out to support us tonight were first class. That was a great reception and it is something I will never forget.

“The last few weeks have been a blur, it still hasn’t fully sunk in. I have to pinch myself that I have this opportunity. But with the support of Alex, the other Principals and the good people of Galashiels, I will give it my very best.”

The mounted party were in to town by the Galashiels Ex-Service Pipe Band before the Braw Lad and Selkirk Standard Bearer were presented with spurs at a special dinner organised by the Gala Souters' Association.
