THIEVES broke into the Melrose Abbey shop over the weekend.
Books of stamps and other office items were taken during the raid.
Police believe the break-in happened between 6pm on Saturday and 9 o'clock the following morning.
Inspector Robbie Noble said: "This has been carried out with some element of thought and care, so it's possible someone may have seen a person acting suspiciously around the shop before this happened.
"It's also possible the suspects left via Cloisters Road.
"I'm appealing to anyone who say anything suspicious there or perhaps saw people carrying bags or tools there on Saturday night or Sunday morning."
