NURSERIES in Galashiels held their annual sports day at St Margaret’s Primary School in the town last week.

Youngsters from across the region had great fun competing (but not too seriously) in the summer spectacular.

A myriad of obstacle courses, throwing competition, a wheelbarrow race and that old favourite, the egg and spoon race were just some of the challenges this year’s entrants had to contend with.

Balmoral, Burgh Primary, Glendinning, St Peter's and Langlee Primary all played their part in the magnificent occasion, which now celebrates its fourth year. With each child donating £1 on the day, £80 was also raised to buy toys and books for the Eye Clinic at Borders General Hospital.

Speaking to the Border Telegraph, senior nursery nurse at Burgh Primary School, Jan Parker said: “We have been holding the sports day since the London Olympics back in 2012 and it has always been very well supported. This year was no exception. And apart from one year, we have always been very lucky with the weather.

“There was no flat racing, the children take turns at going over little hurdles and through tunnels. The onus is always on fun, and it looks like they all had a great time.

“The feedback from parents was excellent too, and it is great to be able to raise money for as a good a cause as the Borders Eye Clinic.”
