EVERYTHING is in place for the 2016 Crossgates Gala with a full week of activities taking place in the run-up to the big day.

This year's Gala Queen is Eilidh Poole, and her Princesses are Beau Simms and Sarah Angus.

Gala week got going on Sunday with the fun run events. The 5km for adults attracted a really enthusiastic field who enjoyed the decent weather conditions as did the youngsters who ran the 1 mile event.

There were five aside football tournaments on Monday night for High School age players, while on Tuesday it was the adults' turn to take the pitch.

Tonight (Wednesday) the fives spotlight falls on the primary school age youngsters.

Thursday night will see the Wheelbarrow race take place at Humbug Park starting at 6.30pm and there will be plenty of competition for the top prize.

Friday will see the big Gala Week Quiz in the Crystal Bar and again there will be plenty of competition.

The on Saturday it is Gala Day with all the Committee hoping for favourable weather conditions.

Four days out the forecast suggests that it will be a pretty good day with the danger of a shower.

Gala Queen Eilidh and her Princesses will be joined in the parade by the Crystal Bar football team parading the sunday League League Cup they recently won. The theme this year is Super Heroes so there is bound to be a few

The parade will leave the Mines Rescue Station at noon and will head to Humbug Park where there will be a full programme of activities.

There will be a mix of rides on tap along with a range of inflatables and bungee trampolines.

The wristbands which will be on sale for £5 will enable access to all activities.

In addition there will also be the five a sides finals and races.

Said the Gala Committee's Barry Tillier: "Hopefully it will be a great day weatherwise and everyone has a brilliant time."
