BUILDING work is well under way on 79 new affordable homes in Dunfermline for Fife Council.

Persimmon Homes will deliver 49 houses in Bute Crescent while Campion Homes will bring 30 houses to Elliot Street.

Both firms started work on site in March with the first occupants due to move into Bute Crescent in August.

Councillor Judy Hamilton, the spokesperson for housing and building services, paid a visit and said: "This programme of housebuilding is really picking up pace and I’m so pleased to be here to see the good work on these new developments.

“As well as the very significant benefits to the people who will live in these quality, warmer homes, we’re delighted to offer employment opportunities whilst construction work goes on here.

"The workforce is doing a fantastic job in contributing towards our target of 2,700 new affordable homes for Fife by 2017.”

Persimmon Homes will deliver 49 new homes ranging from one-bed cottage flats to five-bed houses and six bungalows.

The properties will include sprinkler systems, innovative technologies and increased insulation standards.

There will be 110 parking spaces and the project received £588, 000 of Scottish Government funding.

At Elliot Street, Campion Homes will bring in 30 one- and two-bedroom flats for mid-market rent, aimed at people who are working but can't afford market rent prices.

There will be 61 parking spaces and the homes should be complete by March 2017.
