A DRUNK staggered into a Galashiels house and placed the occupants in a state of fear and alarm.

Keith Scott of Kenilworth Avenue, said he had no idea where he was and had no recollection of the incident.

The 43-year-old pleaded guilty to behaving in a threatening or abusive manner, entering a house in Langlee Drive without permission and while intoxicated.

Procurator fiscal Graham Fraser said the incident happened at 3am when the householder and his partner heard a noise while a seven year old child

was sleeping in bed.

He explained: "They saw the accused with a cut on his forehead standing in the doorway of the child's bedroom.

"He was mumbling something but seemed confused and in a daze but would not leave.

"He was pushed out of the house and landed on his knees.

"The police were called and he was taken into custody.

"He told police he did not know where Langlee drive was or why he was there. The police added in their own words the child was blissfully unaware of what took place."

Defence lawyer Fiona Hamilton admitted it was a strange incident but an isolated one.

She said: "He has no idea what went on.

"His position is that he has no idea where Langlee Drive is and still does not.

"He had been abstaining from alcohol but he had been out in certain bars and it had an effect on him.

"He has fallen and could have been concussed."

The court heard the former bus driver had no previous convictions.

Sheriff Peter Paterson said he was prepared to treat it as an "isolated incident" and ordered him to pay a total of £150 compensation to the householder and his partner.
